Sardine Dinner Plate, Coral Rim

Five sardines swimming the same way across the well of the plate, painted in cobalt and silver-grey with the scales scratched in while the paint was still wet. They are stacked in a loose column rather than arranged in a neat row, which is what stops it looking like a diagram.

The rim is a run of short coral strokes. Against the blue fish it does the whole job of the plate — there is nothing else on it.

Care
