Ivory ceramic dinner plate hand-painted with a coral lobster and a cobalt brush-stroke rim

Lobster Dinner Plate, Cobalt Rim

$48.00

One lobster, painted front-on with its claws up, sitting dead centre on a warm ivory glaze. The brushwork is deliberately loose — you can see where the coral was laid on thick and where it ran thin — and around the edge runs a rim of short cobalt strokes, no two quite the same width.

It is a 26 cm plate, so it takes a main course rather than being decorative. The painting sits under the glaze, which is why it survives a dishwasher without going chalky at the edges.

Specification

  • Material: glazed earthenware, warm ivory body
  • Design: hand-painted under the glaze, then fired
  • Approximate size: 26 cm across, 2 cm deep
  • Rim: hand-painted cobalt brush strokes
  • Dishwasher: yes
  • Microwave: yes
  • Sold: individually

Care

Dishwasher and microwave safe. Because each plate is painted by hand, the lobster sits slightly differently on every one and the rim strokes never repeat — that is the make, not a fault. Avoid thermal shock: do not take it from the fridge straight under hot water. Full guidance on our Care & Materials page.
