Lobster Dinner Plate, Cobalt Rim

One lobster, painted front-on with its claws up, sitting dead centre on a warm ivory glaze. The brushwork is deliberately loose — you can see where the coral was laid on thick and where it ran thin — and around the edge runs a rim of short cobalt strokes, no two quite the same width.

It is a 26 cm plate, so it takes a main course rather than being decorative. The painting sits under the glaze, which is why it survives a dishwasher without going chalky at the edges.

Dishwasher and microwave safe. Because each plate is painted by hand, the lobster sits slightly differently on every one and the rim strokes never repeat — that is the make, not a fault.
